THE PRACTICE

We are a friendly three doctor Practice based in the heart of the Highlands covering the villages of Kingussie, Newtonmore and Kincraig with patients also in the smaller communities of Insh, Drumguish, Glenfeshie and surrounding areas. The list size is approximately 3,000 but being in a popular all year tourist area we average up to 1,400 patients per year.

THE AREA

Kingussie is the Capital of Badenoch situated just off the main A9 (Perth to Inverness) road. It is 45 miles south of Inverness and 14 miles from Aviemore. It is a popular tourist area with outstanding local scenery and both Kingussie and Newtonmore Railway Stations are on the Edinburgh to Inverness line.

PREMISES

The present building was purpose built in 1983 with plans now well advanced for a substantial extension which we hope to have finished in 1998. The GP Registrar would have his/her own consulting room with access also to a separate library/computer room. We have a very well equipped treatment room with defibrillator, ECG, nebulisers, centrifuge and a full range of surgical equipment for minor surgery and accident emergency work.

ACCOMMODATION

The Practice has the first option on a bungalow locally which would be available for rental although other types of rental accommodation are also usually available.

MANAGEMENT

We presently have 5 reception staff with varying responsibilities in addition to their reception desk dudes. Two of the staff have become very skilled computer operators with presently 3 PC's linked to the GPASS system with word processor and CD ROM availability as well as a proposed E-mail and Internet link in the near future. All our records are in A4 folders with computer summaries well established. We have our own Practice Nurse as well as a full compliment of Community Nurses/Midwives.

SERVICES

We offer a full range of general medical services to out patients as well as individual regular clinics covering Child Health Surveillance/Immunisation, Asthma, Diabetes, Well Woman Clinic and a weekly Psychiatry Clinic run by a visiting consultant from Inverness. Our Physiotherapist has 3 sessions per week at the Practice and we have CPN, OT and Chiropody services also available.

We deal with virtually all our own Accident and Emergency work with our local shinty teams creating a considerable amount of trauma in an average season.

HOSPITAL / OTHER COMMITMENTS

The Practice covers the local community hospital (St Vincent's) with a total of 38 beds (20 geriatric and 18 psycho-geriatric beds). We are responsible for the day-to-day running of the hospital with the visiting consultants from Inverness attending every 2 weeks. The Unit creates a great variety of work with acute admissions, respite care, post op, terminal care, day care and rehabilitation/assessment.

The Practice also covers the Police Surgeon duties for Badenoch and we attend any road traffic accidents on the A9 within our Practice area. (Dr Munro has a particular interest in Basics and immediate medical care).

RECREATION

Badenoch and Strathspey is a very popular tourist area with excellent facilities for skiing, hill climbing, water sports, gliding, fishing, shooting, curling, skating, and golf. There are many excellent historical and tourist attractions within the area as well as a tremendous selection of hotels and restaurants.

SUMMARY

We are an enthusiastic and friendly group in a Practice which we are sure would offer a very varied and worthwhile year.
